Message to the Portland Press Herald- Green Independents are NOT Republicans

I got off the lobster boat today with an unusual Facebook update. Maine Green Independent Party member Asher Platts, who is running for state senate out of Portland’s district 27, tagged me in a post:

“@PressHerald please list the @mainegreens candidates under their own party, not the GOP. Thx.”

Asher Platts is a Maine Green Independent challenging Democrat Justin Alfond for his state senate seat.

Platts is referring to the primary results reported on by the PPH in today’s paper. In the report, the PPH lists all Green Independent candidates as members of the Republican Party.

I’d hate to accuse the PPH of intentionally screwing up their coverage, but it isn’t much better to assume that the error was a result of ignorance or oversight.

Regardless of why the reporting was flawed, there’s no excuse for not fixing the problem.

The PPH should correct the error immediately. Greens deserve to be recognized as Greens. Plus, if too many old-school conservatives think a guy like Platts is a member of the GOP, there might be a spontaneous head explosion epidemic in certain parts of the state.
