That’s the best way to describe the Bates College women’s lacrosse team reacting to the news on Sunday night that they’ve been selected to the 2016 NCAA Division III national tournament.
Here’s what it looked like:
1994 was the only other year that they’ve made it to the national tournament, and this will be the first time that they’ve ever hosted a tournament game.
Also, the team’s 12 victories this year marks the second highest win total in the program’s history, which dates back to 1974. The only year they had more single season wins was in 1992, when they went 14-2.
With a first round bye, they’ll play the winner of the first round game between Springfield College and Bridgewater State University this Sunday, May 15 at 1 pm at Garcelon Field on the Bates College campus in Lewiston.
As an added treat for local lacrosse fans, the first round game between Springfield and Bridgewater State will be held at Garcelon Field as well, this Saturday, May 14 at 1 pm.
According to the Bates College website, tickets for both games will be $5 for general admission, and $2 for students.
Bates will be joined by three other teams from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in the national tournament, Trinity, Amherst, and conference champion Middlebury.
Bates is coached by Brett Allen, Head Coach; Heidi Allen, Associate Head Coach; and Lauren Reid, Assistant Coach.
